This 1958 Borderies Cognac is another stellar edition from the selection of brandies that have been released by ace independent bottler, Hermitage. This bottling was crafted from Ugni Blanc grapes which were cultivated in a variety of silica and clay soil from the smallest cru of Cognac, the Borderies. It was matured for in oak barrels before it was bottled at 42% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Juniper berries, roast pheasant skin, cashew nuts and dried hay with a hint of mace and other dried spices.
Palate: Rich flavours of stewed plums, dried currants, medlars, cashew nuts and cinnamon.
Finish: Lingering.
Distillery Information
The Hermitage Distillery was organized in 1862 by Gaines, Berry & Co. The distillery was actually built in 1868, on the Kentucky River south of Frankfort. One assumes that the name Hermitage was a reference to President Andrew Jacksons home of that name in Nashville, Tennessee.The company was reorganized and incorporated in 1868 as W. A. Gaines & Co.
