This Hermitage 1906 vintage Grande Champagne Cognac is a sublime example of a traditional Grande Champagne Cognac and a real masterpiece for its age. The grape variety is Ugni Blanc, which was harvested from vines that can be as old as a hundred years.Distillation took place in old 5-hectolitre pot stills, which would have been some of the smallest available, and this brandy was almost certainly distilled on its lees. It was matured in old 300-litre oak barrels for 72 years and in vats for 12 years in very damp cellars. Astonishing stuff here from Hermitage.
