Woodford Reserve(R), the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby(R), is honoring this year’s “Run for the Roses”(TM) with the release of its 2016 Kentucky Derby commemorative bottle. This year’s limited-edition Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby bottle features artwork from award-winning equine artist Thomas Allen Pauly.

Chicago native Pauly is a world-renowned equine painter and is the Official Artist of American Pharoah Triple Crown Winner. His painting “Barreling Down” is featured on the front of the Woodford Reserve bottle. The image on the bottle features a closeup, impressionistic look into the big race as two thoroughbreds and jockeys are neck and neck. The bright blue sky of a spring day in Kentucky shines through in the background as the horses race towards the finish line. The neck band features crisp black and Woodford Reserve’s signature copper color with the Kentucky Derby 142 date and Thomas Allen Pauly’s signature sealing the top of the bottle. Woodford Reserve Releases 2016 Kentucky Derby Straight Bourbon Whiskey 1L Tasting Notes

Nose: Heavy with rich dried fruit, hints of mint and oranges covered with a dusting of cocoa. Faint vanilla and tobacco spice.

Palate: Rich, chewy, rounded and smooth, with complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa. Toffee, caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound.

Finish: Silky smooth, almost creamy at first with a long, warm satisfying tail.

Distillery Information

One of Kentuckys oldest and smallest distilleries, the present day Woodford Reserve Distillery is built on history, sitting on Kentuckys oldest distilling site where Elijah Pepper began crafting whiskey in 1812. It was on these same hallowed grounds that years later Master Distiller James Christopher Crow perfected his whiskey-making methods, which today have become common practice, including the implementation of sour mash into fermentation.

The Distillery is home to a 500-foot-long gravity-fed barrel run, our iconic copper pot stills, and 100-year-old cypress wood fermenters. We also boast one of the only heat cycled barrelhouses in the world, ensuring every drop seeps into the charred and toasted white oak, giving Woodford Reserve its color and signature flavor.
