This peated bottling is a blend of two aged whiskeys distilled at Westland, one was from a peated malt mash and one was from a Washington pale malt mash. The whiskeys were aged a minimum of 2 years in a variety of casks which include heavily charred, new American oak; ex-bourbon barrels, and ex-sherry casks. American peated whiskey doesn’t happen all that often, and is often rather interesting indeed!

Westland Peated American Single Malt Whiskey | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Orange and lemon peel at first, before a wave of smoky peat rolls in.

Palate: Smoky peanut shells and a little medicinal malt, alongside leafy mint.

Finish: Fruity esters and a pinch of ground pepper.

Distillery Information

The Caperdonich distillery was a producer of Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that operated between 1898 and 1902, and then again between 1965 and 2002. Caperdonich whisky was a component of some blends of Chivas Regal.
