Part of the new Suntory whisky range, The Essence of Suntory was released on February 27th, 2018. The new range features fresh, new bottle designs and gorgeous labels showcasing modern Japanese art. Three expressions have been announced so far, one by Yamazaki, one by the Hakushu distillery, and one from Suntorys grain distillery, Chita.Unlike others from the great Yamazaki distillery, this 12 year-old expression has been peated, bringing forth the gentle influence of smoke. The producers tasting notes describe notes of berry sweetness joined by notes of soft smoke. The 500ml bottles, at 49% ABV are, for the moment, exclusive to Japan. But of course, we have a few bottles for the Japanese whisky fans across the globe.

Nose: Nose is complex yet not overwhelming.

Palate: A splendid taste with a warm feel to it. Not to smoky but silky smooth.

Finish: The finish is surprisingly long and warming.
