A 2008 Teaninich single malt from indie bottler Elixir Distillers, matured in a single refill hogshead for 11 years, before being bottled in August 2020 as part of its Single Malts of Scotland series. Aromas of freshly-cut hay, juniper berries, elderflower, kiwi and autumn leaves fill the nose, complemented by notes of butterscotch, grapefruit and strawberry ice cream throughout the palate.

Nose: Aromas of freshly-cut hay, juniper berries, elderflower, kiwi and autumn leaves fill the nose.

Palate: There is a much greater presence of peat in the taste than the nose suggests. The smokiness quickly hits the palate and then tapers off.

Finish: Quite rich and lovely smooth texture.

Distillery Information

Teaninich is a whisky distillery in Alness. It was founded and built in 1817 by Hugh Munro on his estate of Teaninich Castle. Despite an initial difficulty of procuring barley whisky owing to a high demand from illegal distilleries, by 1830 Teaninich produced 30 times more spirit than it did at its founding.
