Red Wine: Penfolds | G5-NV
Glorious aromas of blackberry spice tile and toasted wood that move into sandalwood violet and rose petal then cloves and nutmeg before revealing a cappuccino and cream undertone. Full-bodied yet very tight and compacted with a dense center palate that is still agile and energetic. Tightly wound and compressed. Great complexity. Waiting to open and unravel in the bottle. It builds on the palate with such fine tannins that perfectly integrate.

Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: A stunner. This is complex stylish and distinctive with aromatics leaping out of the glass including dark chocolate-covered peppermint patties dried sage salted black licorice black forest cake and plenty of rich spiced plum cherry preserves and framboise. Savory elements balance out the richness with hints of dried porcini white truffle and firming earthy notes and a touch of black walnut liqueur. The tannins are polished and refined while the finish is epic.

Producer Information
Penfolds has extensive vineyard holdings located across the various winegrowing regions of South Australia. Some of these are among the most iconic properties in the country, including Magill Estate, and the Kalimna and Koonunga Hill vineyards in the northern Barossa. The Woodbury estate in the Eden Valley is planted entirely to Riesling where a cooler climate is well-suited to the variety. In comparison, the Coonawarra estate is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz on the terra rossa soil type that the region is famous for. This clay-based soil type has remarkably good drainage characteristics and is found in numerous other wine regions throughout the world, most notably La Mancha in Spain. In addition, a wide range of grape growers are also used, both in the core South Australian regions and further afield, particularly for Chardonnay. In total, around 220 different sources contribute to production.
