A legendary Ardbeg, the 1974 Provenance first appeared in Europe in 1997 shortly after Glenmorangie’s takeover of the distillery. This version of Provenance was for the US market and was introduced in 2000.

Ardbeg 1974 Provenance US Release Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Spiced, rich nose with notes of baked apple and cinnamon. Hints of beeswax, potpourri and iodine. A little furniture polish, dried apricot, sticking plasters and parsley.

Palate: Herbal and very complex palate with fiery peat smoke and citrus zest. Bitter lime juice, caramel, toasted teacakes and cocoa powder. Hints of curry spice and cardamom.

Finish: Very long finish with hints of burnt sugar, black pepper and mixed spices.

Distillery Information

Ardbeg Distillery, which is situated on the southern coast of Islay, was founded in 1815 by the MacDougall family. Once the peated barley arrives at the distillery, it is milled and mashed with water sourced from Loch Uigeadail, which is situated approximately 3 miles away from the distillery.
