Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2020 Ried Steinertal Riesling opens coolish and fresh, with lime aromas on the precise and finely flinty nose that also reveals some fresh pineapple stem and white/green vineyard peach aromas with a touch of paprika. Crystalline, elegant and juicy-piquant, with concentrated fruit, the 2020 Steinertal Riesling is carried by demanding acidity to long, dense, aromatic finish with stimulating tannin grip. The wine is compact and close-meshed but also juicy. Tasted as a sample in June 2021. To be bottled in July. 2020 is the first vintage Lucas Pichler doesn’t use the predicates of the Vinea anymore since he left the group earlier this year.
- James Suckling: This gentle giant creeps up on you very slowly, but the minerality is off the scale, and when it hits you hold on to your hat. Delicate white-peach, pink-grapefruit and summer-meadow character. Long and intense salty finish with a touch of green apple right at the back that lifts it beautifully. Drink or hold.

Weingut F.X. Pichler is a wine producer based in the Unesco World Heritage Site of Wachau, Austria. It specialzes in producing a range of complex, intensely flavored wines wines from Grner Veltliner, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. The estate vineyards are located on steep stone terraces, predominantly located on the southern side of the Danube river. There is a total of 20 hectares (49 acres) of vineyards planted to Grner Veltliner, Riesling and small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc and Gelber Muskateller. These vineyards are steeped in history the Loibner Burgstall vineyard appears in documents dating back as early as 1248. F.X. Pichler was established in 1898 in Drnstein and in 1976, the estate passed to Franz Xaver (F.X.) Pichler. The winery created its eye-catching Unendlich Riesling in 1998, and features a star-studded blue label inspired by Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s stage setting for Mozart’s The Magic Flute opera. The label was specially designed in order to reflect the meaning of the word “unendlich”, which translates as never-ending. The modern cellars were built in 2009, and were designed to reflect the historic 12th and 13th Century steep stone terraces typical of Wachau.
