Delicate and full aroma of the wine is filled with grace subtle floral notes, subtle hints of orange peel, stone fruit, nuances of anise. The taste of wine a deep, multi-faceted, sophisticated, well-balanced, high-density, fine acidity, concentrated fruit tones (stone fruit) and a long, endless aftertaste with citrus nuances.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Lucas Pichlers 2020 Ried Kellerberg Riesling opens clear, coolish and spicy on the stony and flinty nose that reveals fresh notes of lemon juice, shredded lime zests, woodruff ad stone fruits. Juicy, elegant and salty on the palate, this is a balanced and complete Kellerberg whose force is lifted by crystalline acidity and structured by fine tannins. There are some very noble raisin notes on the finish. Very promising! 12.5% alcohol. Tasted as a sample in June 2021, to be bottled in July. 2020 is the first vintage Lucas Pichler doesn’t use the predicates of the Vinea anymore since he left the group earlier this year.
- James Suckling: You need some time to wrap your head around this mineral masterpiece. So pristine and delicate, in spite of the enormous concentration and stony power behind it. Yes, there are a ton of citrus, white-peach and wild-rose aromas in there, and yes, there are intense wild herbs, too, but these things only scratch the surface of its soul. Whats more, it only has 12.5% alcohol! Drink or hold.

There is a total of 20 hectares (49 acres) of vineyards planted to Grner Veltliner, Riesling and small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc and Gelber Muskateller. These vineyards are steeped in history the Loibner Burgstall vineyard appears in documents dating back as early as 1248. F.X. Pichler was established in 1898 in Drnstein and in 1976, the estate passed to Franz Xaver (F.X.) Pichler. The winery created its eye-catching Unendlich Riesling in 1998, and features a star-studded blue label inspired by Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s stage setting for Mozart’s The Magic Flute opera. The label was specially designed in order to reflect the meaning of the word “unendlich”, which translates as never-ending. The modern cellars were built in 2009, and were designed to reflect the historic 12th and 13th Century steep stone terraces typical of Wachau.
