Beautiful bright translucent cherry red colour. The nose is a little darker, deeper and slightly brown. The delicious scent of cherry blossom mingles with the minerality of volcanic basalt, thick red cherry, red apple peel and subtle juicy spice.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2020 Migan is a red from La Orotava and was produced with Listn Negro grapes from the village of La Perdoma, whose ancient name was Migan. It comes from four plotsMontijo (40% of the grapes), To Luis (30%), La Habanera (20%) and Las Suertes (10%)on red volcanic soils and at different altitudes, between 350 and 600 meters above sea level, where altitude defines the character of the plot. In 2020, they didn’t use the San Antonio vineyard that was used in previous vintages; it has been replaced by Montijo. 2020 was an early harvest, and the grapes fermented by plot, always with indigenous yeasts, and 70% of the wine matured in neutral 500- and 600-liter oak barrels, while the wine from To Luis matured in concrete. The change in vineyards (they abandoned the one with more clay at lower altitude and increased in higher altitude and with less clay) has given the wine an extra kick. These wines reward time in bottle, and they need at least one year.
Producer Information
Envinate is a high-profile, minimal-intervention wine producer making a range of wines from across western Spain, covering the Canary Islands, Galicia and the southeast. The company itself is based in La Roda, near Albacete in Castilla La Mancha. The label (which roughly transates as “wine yourself”) was established by four friends who studied winemaking at the University of Miguel Hernndez de Elx in Elche, just west of Alicante, in southeast Spain. Following their studies, the four (Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos, and Jos Martnez) established a winemaking consultancy which then grew into their own brand: Envinate. Broadly, speaking, the four split their attentions between themselves, with Roberto Santana covering the Canary Islands (and, in particular, Tenerife), Alfonso Torrente taking Ribeira Sacra (Galicia), Laura Ramos in Murcia and Jos Martnez in Almansa. Wines cover a number of labels but, for the most part, “Envinate” is visible somewhere in the design. Often, the wines produced are a collaboration with local winegrowers generally stated at the top of the label.
