Producer Information
At the beginning of the XIXth century, Symphorien Chauvenet, master barrel maker in Nuits-Saint-Georges, married Franoise Roy, a winegrower. A few vines in the wedding basket, Franoise watches over the estate, what a woman! The roots of the Maison are in the Cte de Nuits, in Nuits-Saint-Georges. It thus enjoys a unique position, in the heart of the vineyards producing the best red Grands Crus of Burgundy. Franois Chauvenet, born in 1802, inherited a family know-how. When he founded his Trading House in 1853, he named it F. Chauvenet in tribute to his mother, Franoise, who taught him everything. Standing first and lying last, she took care of so many children and so many bottles! In the kingdom of letters, the Burgundian Colette also established herself as an emblematic figure of French literature. Renowned for her freedom of expression and her hedonistic approach to life and gastronomy, Colette tasted F. Chauvenet wines on 3rd April 1929. She was so moved that this experience inspired her to write a book: En Bourgogne dans les vignes du Seigneur (In Burgundy in the Lord’s Vineyards). There is no better recognition than this enthusiastic description.
