A positively gorgeous nose that is fully mature and offers a wonderful mix of spice, earth, leather, aged fruit, dried rose petal and hints of sandalwood leads to rich, full, sweet and still powerful flavors
Reviews:
- James Suckling: A positively gorgeous nose that is fully mature and offers a wonderful mix of spice, earth, leather, aged fruit, dried rose petal and hints of sandalwood leads to rich, full, sweet and still powerful flavors that possess excellent depth as well as superb length without any of the usual excessively dry ’76 style tannins. This is a lovely effort but particularly in the context of a difficult vintage.
Producer Information
Domaine de la Romane-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy’s best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-Romane, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the Cte d’Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous Romane-Conti vineyard, and on average is the most expensive wine in the world. The domaine predominately produces Pinot Noir-based wines from 28 hectares (69 acres) of grand cru vineyard. Alongside Romane-Conti are La Tche, Romane-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg in Vosne-Romane; plus chezeaux and Grands chezeaux bottlings. Fruit from Corton-Bressandes, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Renardes is combined in a single Corton Grand Cru red. There are three white (Chardonnay) wines made. Only one of these, the Montrachet is made widely avilable. A Btard-Montrachet and a Bourgogne Hautes Ctes de Nuits are not publically distributed.
