With a history dating back to the late 18th century, Chteau Phlan-Sgur is a beautiful 70-hectare estate situated in the Saint-Estphe appellation. The property has changed hands a few times over the course of the years, and its currently owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere, the Belgian founder and owner of shipping company Sea-Invest. This is a rare bottle of the 1961 vintage, considered as the greatest vintage in the post-war years.

          Producer Information

Chteau Phlan Sgur is a wine estate in the Saint-Estphe region of the Mdoc, northern Bordeaux. The grand vin is typically composed of 50 to 65 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder made up from Merlot. It is regarded as one of the better estates omitted from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It belongs to the Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux, and is classified in the Place de Bordeaux in the category of “Grand Crus Classs et assimils (and equivalents)”. It was rated as Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003, but has not been part of that ranking since 2007.The estate lies just south of Saint-Estphe village. Chteau Calon Sgur lies a short way north, towards the northern edge of the Saint-Estphe appellation, while beyond Chteau Meyney, to the south, is the second growth Chteau Montrose. In total, Phlan Sgur comprises 70 hectares (173 acres) of vines on the hillocks and plateaux of Saint-Estphe, before the land drops away to the Canal de Calon waterway just beyond Calon Sgur.
