Origin: Itlay
Distillery: Luxardo Distillery
Named after the traditional Italian Aperitivo cocktail custom, Luxardo Aperitivo is a well-balanced infusion of citrus, gentian, rhubarb and other herbs. The mild alcohol content and bitter orange flavor make an ideal complement to fresh-squeezed juice or prosecco cocktails. Drier and with more herbal complexity than the brand-leading Italian aperitivo. Luxardo Aperitivo is perhaps more enjoyable neat-on-the-rocks than it is in a spritz.
Luxardo Aperitivo Liqueur Tasting Notes
Nose: Zesty grapefruit and orange with rosemary and delicate spice.
Palate: Just on the bitter side of bittersweet with tart ruby red grapefruit and zesty orange over a herbal rooty base.
Finish: Long zesty bittersweet finish that leaves you salivating for another sip.
Distillery Information
Luxardo is a family-owned company founded in Zara, a port city on the Dalmatian coast of what is now Croatia. Girolamo Luxardo founded the Luxardo Distillery in 1821 to produce his wifes original Maraschino liqueur. Only one member of the fourth generation, Giorgio Luxardo, survived the World War II invasion and fled to Italy. Escaping with only a cherry sapling, Giorgio crossed the Adriatic Sea to the Veneto region of northeast Italy and reconnected with a colleague who had saved the Luxardo recipe book. They replanted the families famed Marasca cherry orchards and Luxardo continues to produce Maraschino to Maria Canevaris original recipe and has continued to expand their spirits and liqueur portfolio for the past 199 years. Today, Luxardo is operated by Franco Luxardo of the familys fifth generation, along with members of the sixth and seventh generation.
