Producer Information
Cambria Estate is fittingly found down Chardonnay Lane in the Santa Maria Valley, of California. It is particularly known for its production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Proprietor Barbara Banke acquired the original Tepusquet vineyard in 1986 along with her spouse Jess Jackson, and have now been producing cool-climate varietals for more than 25 years. The estate vineyard is located on the Santa Maria bench, 17 miles (27km) inland from the Pacific Ocean between the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Sisquoc River. Prior to 1986, it was owned by the Olivera family as a part of the 1838 Mexican land grant, who raised cattle and planted Mission grapes on the property. The climate here is cool-maritime with fog frequently funnelled into area that refrigerates the sunshine and creates one of the longest growing seasons in California. The estate covers more than 1,400 acres (566ha) of undulating topography between 400 to 800 feet (121 to 243m) above sea level. There are many soil types found throughout the estate, a majority of which are sandy, alluvial and well-draining.
