Producer Information
Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is a German wine producer located in the Mosel Valley. It is one of the most traditional in the region and has a wide range of top vineyard holdings in the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer. Kesselstatt is well known for its dry Kabinett and Sptlese Riesling wines as well as its Trockenbeerenauslese from the famed Piesporter Goldtrpfchen vineyard. The estate has a history spanning more than 650 years the first record of a vineyard dates back to 1349. Until 1978, as the name indicates, it was owned by the Imperial Counts (Reichsgrafen) of Kesselstatt. Many of its top vineyard plots were acquired between 1854 and 1889 with the purchase of four monasteries of Saint Maximin. The Reh family took over in 1978, and the estate was run for many years by Annagret Reh-Gartner, supported by her husband Gerhard, until her death in 2016. Under their management concerted efforts were made to lower yields and drive up quality. Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt owns 46 hectares (114 acres) of estate vineyards. These are split across the Saar, Ruwer, and Mosel regions. They are planted on steep, south-facing slopes composed of stony, slate soils, and are planted entirely to Riesling.
