Yvon Mtras is a well-regarded minimal intervention winemaking pioneer based in Grille-Midi, Fleurie, in the Beaujolais region of eastern France. Mtras produces a range of predominantly Gamay-based red wines.Mtras is often aligned with the so-called “Gang of Four” natural or minimal-intervention winemakers Guy Breton, Jean Foillard, Marcel Lapierre and Jean-Paul Thvenet. All, including Mtras, adopted the winemaking teachings of consultant Jules Chauvet (and his disciple, the winemaking consultant Jacques Nauport).Chauvet’s pre-industrial approach to winemaking eschewed most modern winemaking techniques and, while hard to pin down across all producers, Mtras and the Gang of Four generally make wines with little to no additions and no filtering.
